WELCOME to the HORSE & LIVESTOCK TRADER MAGAZINE!

A new concept to the Equine Publishing industry that is getting more people involved and getting more results for our advertiser’s than any other publication in our region.

We are an all-breed, all discipline, equine publication distributed to the entire state of Virginia, and also other states such as North Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee, Maryland and soon to be added South Carolina. Our print issues are HAND DELIVERED to over 1,000 distribution sites such as major convenient store chains, feed and tack stores, western stores, and even some restaurants in the above mentioned states, with a subscription base that covers 26 states as far out as Hawaii.

Most of our readers are people interested in purchasing an equine or an equine related product. Horse & Live-stock Trader Magazine distributes 30,000 plus issues per month, with a Controlled Distribution Program. We are a proud supporter of recycling, so you can bet, that with our CD Program  that we have, very few issues are left over at the news stands. Also by looking at our publication you can see that we have far more people involved in our magazine than any other publication in our region. We have been in operation over 16 years, and even through the bad economic times we never fell below 100 pages. If it were not for our customers and the results that we have gotten them, this would not have been possible.

Our AD PLACEMENT website currently has THOUSANDS of registered customers that on a regular basis come to us for their advertising and purchasing needs.

Through a simple survey that we initiated, we found that our reader base covered a wide range of people making anywhere from $30,000 per household all the way to $1,000,000.00 per household. Our readers incorporate both male and female and much to our surprise we were pleased to find out the number of children that demand-ed that their parents buy them every issue.  There are quite a few of our readers that have been loyal readers for over fifteen years and have saved every issue we have ever printed.

Horse & Livestock Trader Magazine has averaged between 500-1,000 new horses monthly for the last 16 years running. This is the largest selection of current photo horses for sale in a publication in the nation!!! Once again; this speaks volumes on the number of people that are involved with our magazine.

 DIGITAL FILE SPECIFICATIONS

Horse & Livestock Trader Magazine is printed by a company that uses direct to plate technology rather than tradional film processing. For this reason, we ask that your ad be submitted in a specific digital file format. Please follow the guidelines below to insure that your ad appears as you’d like.

Applications
Horse & Livestock Trader Magazines advertising department is mainly PC based. Although many applications are available for design, we have found that certain applications give consistent, dependable results. Final ad files should be supplied as:

  • High resolution PDF
  • Indesign CS4 or lower
  • Photoshop 7.0 or lower

Files from other programs are acceptable if output as a high resolution PDF or saved in a EPS or TIFF format. However; we will be unable to make any changes or corrections to these files. All photos should be scanned at a 300 resolution or higher, with  a line screen of 120. All files used in slick cover must be built in a 300 dpi or higher. Inside uncoated stock can be built as low as 200 dpi without suffering much quality loss. Lower resolutions less than 200 dpi can result in poor quality. Artwork enlarged over 100% may result in an effective resolution of less than 300 dpi.

All image files should be in PDF, TIFF, EPS, JPEG. We strongly discourage submission of GIF, BMP, and PICT images, as they will result in lower image quality.

TIP: Avoid artwork taken from the internet, it is typically 72-96 dpi and is unsuitable for print.

COLOR
All 4-color ads must be in CMYK format and should not exceed 300% ink coverage. On all color ads please make all black type in 100% black. We will not be responsible for any black type not in 100% black that may result in registration issues. Any RGB and/or Pantone colors will be converted. We cannot guarantee color ac-curacy for converted images. All black and white ads must be in grayscale. Any color found in black and white ads will be converted.

FONTS
All font files must be embedded with the digital advertisement. We are a PC based so we accept Postscript and True Type fonts. All black text should be in one color black (100%). NOT registration black, four color black or black build. If ad is prepared in Illustrator, create outlines for all text, and if using Photoshop to create your ad, the type must be added in page layout with one color black. REVERSE PRINT is not recommended.
